Rosalind Davis is an emerging artist and graduate of Chelsea College of Art and the Royal College of Art. Rosalind has lived in London since early childhood. Her work contains a fascination with buildings in urban cityscapes. Buildings have powerful connotations for her. Davis creates juxtapositions between the man - made and the organic in her work, combining painted scenes of stark structures with embroidery, print and appliqué. Textiles and embroidery are usually associated with decoration, pattern and colour – apparently soft, feminine materials. Davis likes to challenge the preconceptions that accompany the word ‘textiles,’ subverting the medium within paintings to present an ominous, threatening world, a post apocalyptic painted and stitched landscape, with a strong romantic undercurrent.
