| Alke creates images which often have an iron fist inside an elegant glove. She is interested in protesting about injustices in her art. The environment, the politics of war or the greed of big business find a place uncomfortably in canvases that can be beautiful and seductive. This sense of tension is heightened by her use of media and colour, layering painted scenes with decorative patterned fabrics, print, collage, or embroidery. The incongruity of subject matter and final image is fascinating and telling. |
